The Household of God: Guard Your Heritage

Play Video

We are the Household of God. The church is the assembly and sanctuary of God’s people and the way in which Jesus Christ continues his mission of revealing God’s truth and love to the world. As the Household of God, we need to learn the ways to conduct ourselves as the adopted children in God’s house. The series “The Household of God” is a study of 1 Timothy and Paul’s instructions on how we are to conduct ourselves as those loved and redeemed by God.

We will conclude our series entitled “The Household of God.” Throughout the Letter to Timothy, we have seen Paul lead both Timothy and the Church in Ephesus to hold on to the hope of Christ, to fight the good fight of the faith, to teach is Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to lead by displaying what it looked like to be true examples of purity and humility to both their fellow Christians and the outside world. This is what Paul meant when he wrote the all-important verse in 1 Timothy 3:15: “But if I should be delayed, I have written so that you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.” Paul displays this all the more in the final verses of the letter to guard the truth like a treasure. That guarding this treasure is both the calling of every faithful Christian, but it is the greatest heritage of the Church; the responsibility of all Christians to both guard and pass on as our legacy and purpose.
